345 - You are not your art is a journey through a challenging period of self-reflection and personal growth. After experiencing job loss, career setbacks, and disappointing responses to my art, I fell into a dark place. Initially escaping into entertainment, I discovered the book "Art & Fear" by David Bayles and Ted Orland, which offered a moment of deep introspection. This reflection made me realize that I had been equating my art with my personal worth. To grow I learned to separate their identity from my work, adopting the mantra "I make art; you are not your art". While still a work in progress, this new perspective has helped me maintain my self-worth regardless of how my art is received.
